Notes of 2018 AGM
Present: Trevor Pugsley, Neil A'Court, Andy Bastow, Terry Coldridge, Ray Davies,
Mike Collins, Bob Jones, Rich Luke, Geoff Smyth, Dave Haizelden, Nev Taylor.
Apologies: Ginger Walker, Rob Williams, Dennis Broom
Fixtures: All sorted amd agreed between Nev and Neil except for June. Following a discussion, Neil will try to book Churston for the June meeting, failing that Taunton & Pickeridge.
Exe Cup: Trevor reported that it will be held at Teign Valley on 11th Sept.
Handicaps: Where a new member holds a CONGU handicap, that will be their starting handicap. Where a new member does not hold a CONGU handicap, they will start on a recommended handicap and then the President & Captain will decide on a suitable handicap based on their first 3 cards.
A new member may not win a trophy or prize until he has played 3 competitions with the Coaver Club Golf Society. (However they can win a nearest the pin prize and Twos sweep)
Rich Luke suggested a new handicap adjustment system as follows.
Player scoring 0 to 24 points inclusive will have a handicap INCREASE OF 1
Player scoring between 25 to 32 points inclusive will have NO CHANGE to their handicap
Player scoring 33 to 34 points inclusive will have a handicap CUT OF 1
Player scoring 35 to 39 points inclusive will have a handicap CUT OF 2
Player scoring 40 and above points will have a handicap CUT OF 3
This was agreed to be a sensible way forward as many people are playing off handicaps far too low giving no chance of winning again in the near future.
Rich Luke and Captain will look back at the 2017 results and agree on a 2018 starting handicap for each member based on the above rules.
The Race to the Warren calculation will remain as the total of each players 6 best stableford scores throughout the season.
Sponsors: It was agreed that each event should be sponsored at £25 for 2nd & 3rd prizes. Nev will post on the fixture list who is the sponsor for each event based on 2017 sponsors.
For any events without a regular sponsor, the society will be asked for a volunteer to sponsor the event. Should no one come forward, no 2nd/3rd prize money will be awarded at that event. The society will not subsidise prize money due to lack of a sponsor.
Finances: Neil reported that the society is doing OK. He has paid deposits where required for the 2018 events. He is happy that if we continue to charge a £20 membership fee and £35 per meeting and subsidise the Exe Cup that the society will break even by the end of the year.
In 2017 the approximate amounts received/spent were as follows:
Membership: £400
Exe Cup £300
Balls £200
Wine £200
Current credit balance for the society is approx £200.
